Now picture yourself, you are a
billionaire, you have everything you always wished to have. And sometimes you
might feel uncomfortable with your wealth. You live the good life but a lot of
people don’t. The poverty, the famine, the disease affect many parts of the
world and you can do something about it with your money. If you want to keep
your money for you it’s ok, I am not calling you selfish, but don’t you think
that your money could be more useful to someone or something else?
Here is an example of a philanthropic act
made by a billionaire. You know Microsoft right? His founder Bill Gates too?
But have you heard about the “Bill & Melinda Gates foundation”?
The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation, is
an American Humanist and Philanthropic foundation created in 2000. His aim is
to bring the global population innovations in terms of health and knowledge.
Bill and Melinda Gates finance this foundation and their annual donations are
higher than the expenses of the World Health Organization. Other contributors
bring funds, as an example, in June 2006 the American billionaire businessman
Warren Buffet gave 37 billion dollars. It employs about 1200 people all around
the world. Since its creation, the foundation has paid the amazing amount of
28,3 billion dollars.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet also lead a
campaign called “The Giving Pledge” which encourages the wealthiest people in
the world to make a commitment to give most of their wealth to philanthropic
causes. It a quite a success! In January 2015, 128 billionaires, individuals or
couples, have signed the pledge. Among them we can find people such as George
Lucas, Mark Zuckerberg and David Rockefeller.
“You’ve done everything you want to do
with your money, think about others now.”
